Community Service Volunteers
Please continue to track your volunteer hours. Some of our members tell me
they tally their hours on their calendar for each month. This makes it easy
to go back add them up for your form. Just make sure you transfer the total
in December to your 2008 calendar. Our total of a little over 9,000 hours
for last year was terrific! Let's try for 10,000 for this coming year!
State Community Service Project
Our state project for the year is to service our military families in some
way. I recently read an article in the Herald's Views And Voices magazine
about the Yellow Ribbon Families of Mercer County. This group sends
packages to our soldiers and gives support for their families. They meet
from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. the first Wednesday of the month and and from 10:00
A. M. until noon the third Saturday of the month at the Shenango Valley
Campus of UPMC, Farrell. It might be worthwhile to check out one of these
meetings. This may also be a vehicle for fullfilling our state project. I
will need feedback on this.
I had an idea of signing Christmas cards at our Christmas breakfast, but the
magazine article said the troops like cards they can send back home.
Birthday cards and all-occasion cards would be good choices. If you have
some of these bring them to the breakfast and I will take them to their
dropoff. I will also have al list of other articles they also would like to
have to send.
I will have an update on Habitat for Humanity at the breakfast.
