Ten King Eiders Cape Spear |
| Body: |
Ten King Eiders at Cape Spear this Tuesday morning was not spring
flavour. Four imm males and six females that also seemed to be
immatures. In a flock together with 15 ratty sub adult Common Eider
feeding just off the surf at the tip. Keeping with the winter theme 30
Thick-billed Murres including a couple in winter plumage flew north.
No phalaropes or jaegers as one could hope for during a 30 knot NE
wind and drizzle in mid May. A wave put up a dark shorebird on the
rocks that in winter I would have assumed was a Purple Sandpiper.
No wheatears but conditions poor for wheatears or wheatear hunters.
Checked Kilbride fields. Lots of Ring-billed Gulls, no LBBGs and no
shorebirds.
Anything can happen in May
Keep on Looking
